Raymond served in WWII as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He and Marie Maloney were married in 1946, shortly after he returned from service in Europe. As a businessman and philanthropist, Raymond spent most of his working life helping to expand his father's construction company into the highly successful Fontaine Bros., now 75 years in the business of constructing fine commercial buildings. In 1972 he founded Tinkham Management Company, a corporation devoted to providing residential, industrial and commercial space. Since 1972 Tinkham Management has grown to over 600 apartments and over 200,000 square feet of commercial space, while employing 22 full and part time workers in western Massachusetts.
In addition to business, one of his passions was inventing and was the holder of a U.S. Patent. Raymond also dedicated much of his later life to ensuring that medical services on Cape Cod and in Ft. Lauderdale were generously supported. Both Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale and The Fontaine Medical Center in Harwich, benefited from his generosity.
